We all know milk and cookies are Santa's favorite! We used our vintage milk bottles and a little calligraphy on our bistro chalkboard to serve Santa his late night snack the cutest way we could.

I recently learned that leaving cookies and milk for Santa became an American holiday tradition in the 1930s—during the Great Depression. Many parents tried to teach children that it was important to give to others and to show gratitude for the gifts they were lucky enough to receive on Christmas. I think this is a fun reminder entering in the holidays this year.

We'd love to hear on Instagram what your thankful for this holiday season and if you have any ideas/recipes for Santa! Tag us on Instagram and use the #FarmhouseLivingChristmas.

Oh, and don't forget to add a few carrots for his trusty reindeer, as Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolph as well. Merry Christmas,
