Coastal Cottage Home Tour with TMKFHome

The cozy coastal cottage welcomes you in at the front door and transports you to your favorite vacation spot oceanside. Every room tells a story as rich as the treasures collected over time. Tracy and her husband found this home in McKinney about 10 years ago. The bones were all there but the couple made changes to make it their own. Tracy has an amazing eye for design! The mix of old and new gives the feel of a plantation style beach home.

SITTING

To the right of the entry is a place to sit and gather. The corner nook has a table and chairs for extra dining. It double as one of the many places Tracy’s husband uses when he works from home. There is so much to see. Neutral textiles abound in this room and throughout. The blue ceramics add a pop of color. Seashells and coral along with woven furnishings and fixtures add so much character to the space.

KITCHEN

From the entry you get a view into the breathtaking kitchen. Two stunning visual comfort pendant lights hang over the island. The back wall shelves hold all the couples everyday dinnerware mixed with woven baskets to add texture and style.

The original island was enlarged to create seating for everyday dining. And while the new stone counter does not perfectly match the old it seamlessly flows and blends so well you would not know it wasn’t original to the space. We love a waterfall island and the stunning woven barstools compliment it perfectly!

The old pantry became a more functional bar area for the family. The couple love to host and this space was designed with that in mind, as was the rest of the home. Tracy treated us to a drink and charcuterie while we were there. We love the kitchen so much, we were happy to stay awhile!

LIVING ROOM

The main family room, again, features showstopper lighting! Comfy slipcovered sofas and chairs create the perfect place to entertain. Beautiful botanicals cover the shiplap walls. The long sideboard was painted white and placed along the only wall long enough for it to fit! And it looks incredible! The original built in became a bar for entertaining family and friends. The room is both simple and sophisticated and overall stunning!

GUEST ROOMS

Left of the entry is one of two adjoining guests rooms. They’re perfect for overnight family as they can be separate or one large suite! Bamboo shades run throughout the home and add warmth to these sweet bedrooms. The linens are everything we look for when traveling, big white fluffy clouds! Another thing that is consistent in every room are the rich warm vintage rugs. We love the cozy charm they add.

PRIMARY BEDROOM

The primary bedroom is off the back of the home. Its an oasis all to itself. This room was once the back porch, the original newel posts are now a feature in the room! There is enough room for a desk and also a cozy area for seating. The large urns filled with ferns on top of the dresser is a huge statement! There are so many whimsical and unexpected accents in this space.

The primary bathroom did not have a tub when Tracy purchased the home. The clawfoot tub that was added was actually sitting in the yard. The prior owners thought it might make a fun garden or something. Tracy brought the tub in and refinished it. More personal touches like lighting and accessories and the room was complete.

BACKYARD

The backyard pool and cabana are a new addition. But they feel like they’ve always been there. Simple black and white tile in the pools sun deck are timeless. Materials used for the cabana are new and salvage giving interest. The outdoor of this home is just as inviting and wonderful as the inside!

We’re so thankful Tracy invited us into her home. This was a fun adventure close to home with the feel of our favorite coastal beach town!
